1. CHECK YOUR THEA STATUS (TSI COMPLIANCE)
- THEA test scores (or proof of exemption such as TAKS, SAT, or ACT scores) are not a requirement for admissions, but they are a requirement for enrolling in courses. Other tests approved for Texas Success Initiative (TSI) compliance include ACCUPLACER, ASSET, and COMPASS. As a transfer student, grades of “C” or better in specific coursework will count for compliance. - a. Contact the Registrar’s Office at 432-552-2637 for questions regarding your THEA status.
- b. Contact the PASS Office at 432-552- 2360 to schedule a test date and for the fees required for this exam
2. COMPLETE YOUR ADMISSIONS FILE
- Make sure all FINAL college transcripts (high school if transferring less than 30 hours) and all other required documents have been sent to the UTPB Admissions Office, MB 1221, 4901 E. University Blvd., Odessa, TX, 79762, 866-552-UTPB (8872). Transcripts must be original and sealed when they arrive in the Admissions Office.
3. CHECK PLACEMENT EXAM STATUS
- The following placement exams are required if you do not have college transfer credits in Math 1314, College Algebra or higher or in an English 1301 or 1302, English Composition or higher.
- a. The Math Placement Test is offered in the PASS Office, MB 1160. Please contact the PASS Office at 432-552-2360 to schedule a time to take this exam. Allow 30 minutes to 1 hour for this exam.
- b. Please contact the University Writing Center, MB 2100, at 432-552-2302 to schedule a time to take the Writing Placement Exam. Allow 1 ½ hours for this exam.
No fees are required for the Placement Exams.
4. READ THE UTPB CATALOG
- Begin to know your University through the Undergraduate Catalog. You will find information important to your degree and the University such as Degree Program Requirements and Rules and Regulations governing students.

5. ADVISE
- Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to help you with degree requirements and course selection. The Academic Advising Office, MB 1150, 432-552-2661, can assign you a faculty advisor and they can also help you with registration.
- Business majors need to contact the School of Business Advisor at 432-552-2173.
6. REGISTER
- Once you have met with an advisor, you can register in either of two ways: (1) Take a completed registration card to the Registrar's Office or (2) Register online at Campus Connect. The link may be found at www.utpb.edu.
7. ARRANGE PAYMENT FOR YOUR BILL
- Check your account and pay on-line through your Campus Connect Account. Contact the Accounting Office at 432-552-2706 for other payment questions.
- FINANCIAL AID - Verify your financial aid (if you applied and qualified). Contact the Financial Aid Office for questions and information regarding Financial Aid at 432-552-2620. Your Financial Aid can also be accessed through your Campus Connect Account.
8. IDENTIFY YOURSELF
- Get your student ID and your parking permit at the Security Desk, MB 1200, 432-552-2787.
9. BUY YOUR TEXTBOOKS
- Just take a copy of your class schedule to the UTPB Bookstore, MB 1140, 432-552-0220 and they can help you select the right books. Or, you may purchase your books online at http://www.efollett.com.
10. ACTIVATE YOUR UTPB E-MAIL
- Important information is sent to students via the campus email system. Therefore, utilizing the system is critical. Students must activate their email account. Instructions are available at http://ird.utpb.edu/information-on-email/ .
