The DISCOVER assessment system is a web based program available to all UTPB students/ grads and is accessible from any computer, on or off campus. Students initially take a 3 part inventory (approximately 25 minutes) based upon values, interests and abilities. Once a specific career area has been identified, students can perform more detailed searches into occupations, majors & schools. The DISCOVER system also has a component that will let students search for jobs online and has separate modules on resume/cover letter preparation and interviewing techniques.
To use the DISCOVER career system, proceed as follows:
- Request an entrance token from the career services department at careerservices@utpb.edu. In your request, you must include your name, major and classification.
- Allow at least two days for a response.
- Once a token is received, click on DISCOVER.
- In the user ID field, type in the token name the career services department gave you. Do NOT enter a password. Hit "Submit"
- Enter your password in each field. Hit "Submit"
- Enter in the personal information in the required fields. Hit "Submit"
- This will take you to the DISCOVER home page. Before getting started, click on the "DISCOVER TOUR" tab in the bottom left hand corner of the page. After taking the tour, you may want to access specific help by clicking on the "Plan My Path" hyperlink in the top left hand side of the page.
