State Exemptions/Waivers

The State of Texas has provided a variety of exemption and waiver programs that may help with tuition costs if the student meets specific criteria. Student must request the Financial Aid Office to determine if eligibility is met. The following is a brief list of the more popular programs:

PROGRAM

MINIMUM CRITERIA

AFDC(TANF)
Aid for Families with Dependent Children

Texas Public high school graduates only.  Student must be receiving AFDC benefits during senior year of high school.

Certified Educational Aides Exemption

Employed as a certified teachers aide for 1 year in a public school.

Early High School Graduation Scholarship

Completion of grades 9-12 in no more than 36 contiguous months in a Texas public school.

Fifth-Year Accounting

At least 120 hours’ college work and plan to take Texas CPA exam.

Hazlewood Act

Texas veterans who have exhausted their eligibility for educational benefits under the G.I. Bill and are not eligible for Title IV grants.

Texas Rehabilitation Commission

Texas students having certain disabling conditions, provided their vocational objectives have been approved by a TRC counselor.

Veterans Education Benefits

Veterans enrolling as students.
