General Information
The HSI Mentor Program was developed to help incoming and current UTPB students adjust to college by providing mentors who already understand how to be successful in college.
Mentors are successful UTPB students who have the desire to help freshman and sophomores succeed.
Reasons to Participate
The advantages of having a mentor are huge. Mentors help students with :

- Locating Financial Aid
- Contacting academic advisors
- The "ins and outs" of college life
- Stress
- Achieving goals
What You Can Expect From a Mentor
Mentors are students you can look up to and call on when help is needed. Mentors know about :

- Outside services for students

- Freshmen and their needs
Who Participates
Different types of students from various backgrounds participate in the mentor program, including students who live on campus and off campus.
What is Expected From Students Who Have a Mentor
Students who are our protégés are expected to :
- Meet with mentor weekly
- Communicate regularly
- Participate in activities
- Inform mentor of problems
- Attend tutorials if necessary
- Be committed to college success
The Program is for All Majors
Protégés come from different majors and students who have not declared a major participate as well. Mentors come from different backgrounds and majors, so they offer a wide variety of information to the students they serve.
